A new personal best at Eagles Canyon Raceway: a 2:19.3 lap in The Skipper, my 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 on Yokohama AD09s. Using RaceChrono with iPhone video, RaceBox Mini S GPS data, and OBDLink MX+ telemetry, the lap highlights where the biggest gains came from—and where there’s still time left to find.
Breaking Into the 2:19s at Eagles Canyon 🏁
I finally cracked a big milestone at Eagles Canyon Raceway.
Lap 6 of the session produced a 2:19.3, about 4–5 seconds faster than my previous best of 2:24 in the same car.
This run was in The Skipper — my 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 — wearing Yokohama AD09 tires. The biggest change from before was switching from Continental ExtremeContact All-Season tires to the AD09s. The additional grip under braking and through the faster sections of the track made a noticeable difference.
Looking at the video and telemetry overlay from RaceChrono, most of the improvement came from carrying more speed through the technical parts of the circuit—especially the Turn 6 compression and the 7–8 transition. Those sections reward commitment and balance, and the car felt planted there throughout the lap.
2:19.3 personal best lap at Eagles Canyon Raceway in The Skipper, my 2023 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 running Yokohama AD09 tires. The telemetry overlay was created using RaceChrono, combining video from my iPhone 16 Pro with high-precision GPS data from a RaceBox Mini S and vehicle data from an OBDLink MX+ OBD adapter. This lap highlights where the time came from through the Turn 6 compression and the 7–8 transition.
The Data Setup
For this session I ran a fairly simple but powerful telemetry setup:
RaceChrono for lap timing and overlay iPhone 16 Pro capturing the video RaceBox Mini S providing high-frequency GPS data OBDLink MX+ pulling vehicle telemetry from the car
RaceChrono then combines the video and data streams to produce the overlay showing speed, braking, throttle, and track position. It’s a great way to see exactly where a lap comes together—and where there’s still room to improve.
Early in the Learning Curve
One thing that’s becoming clear is that when you’re still in the early stages of the learning curve, it’s a little easier to shave seconds off a personal best. As experience builds, the improvements usually become smaller and harder to find.
At some point in the (hopefully distant) future, the gains will come much slower and I’ll probably be chasing tenths—or even fractions—of a second instead. When that happens, those tiny improvements will likely feel even more satisfying.
Track Day Meets Detail Day
Another nice coincidence: the track day happened to line up with a regularly scheduled visit from Cady Mobile Detailing. There’s something satisfying about coming home from a full day at the track and having the car cleaned up and looking sharp again.

A Good Day at the Track
For now though, I’m pretty happy seeing a 2:19 on the clock. It’s always rewarding when the video, telemetry, and seat-of-the-pants feeling all tell the same story.
More seat time ahead—and hopefully a few more seconds left to find.
