There’s something about a Texas spring that just begs for a spontaneous drive and a good pair of walking shoes. With the sun shining and the wildflowers popping, Liz and I decided to head north for a peaceful day at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, tucked along the shores of Lake Texoma.
We loaded up the Porsche Macan, fired up a road trip playlist (more on that later), and hit the backroads. The Macan’s fiery Papaya Metallic paint practically glowed against the bright green fields and wide Texas sky. It’s the kind of car that makes even a short drive feel like an event — smooth, responsive, and just plain fun.

Once we arrived, we were greeted with vast fields of green and bursts of yellow wildflowers dancing in the breeze. The refuge is a hidden gem — not too crowded, with trails that wind through grasslands, wetlands, and wooded areas. It’s peaceful, open, and alive with birdsong.
We picked a trail that led us through a patchwork of wildflowers, pausing to take in the view and snap a few photos. It’s amazing how quickly you can reset your mind by stepping into a space like this — away from screens, traffic, and daily distractions.
One of the best parts? The soundtrack. Classic rock on a springtime drive is a must, and this trip was no different. The perfect theme for the day? “Take It Easy” by the Eagles. There’s something about that song that just fits — whether you’re rolling down a dirt road or walking hand-in-hand through a field of flowers.
We wrapped up the day feeling lighter, happier, and a little more connected — to each other, to nature, and to the joy of simply getting out there and exploring. Sometimes all you need is a good drive, a good hike, and a great tune to remind you what weekends are really for.
