Locked in at Marina Cay & Another Great Night at Loose Mongoose ⛵🍽️

We’ve been tied up to the same reserved mooring ball at Marina Cay for two nights in a row. No, we didn’t pay extra to reserve it days in advance, and no, we didn’t game the system by having everyone on board try to grab a ball at the same time. We like the morning jump ball battle—Mano a Mano—just like work, where I’m fighting for stuff by milliseconds all day, every day. 😆

Locked in at Marina Cay & Another Great Night at Loose Mongoose ⛵🍽️

Rather than eating at Marina Cay, where the food and drinks are very good but priced like Scrub Island, we opted for the free ferry from Marina Cay to Trellis Bay to have dinner at Loose Mongoose—one of our go-to spots in the BVI. On the way, we ran into a family of four from Boston who were also on a Moorings 4200, though they had Jambo as their skipper. Jambo is one of my favorite boat briefers at The Moorings, along with Shanda—both are thorough, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. Turns out, the Boston crew was also headed to Loose Mongoose, so we all made the trip together.

Loose Mongoose Never Disappoints

Liz had the Lemon Snapper, while I went for the Shrimp in Creole Sauce, served with rice, corn on the cob, and plantains—everything was delicious. The only small disappointment was our server, who seemed new and didn’t know what the specials were. We asked about the soup of the day, and he had to check. Several minutes after we placed our order, the board with all the specials was finally set up—turns out, there were a lot of dishes we would’ve tried. Liz even tried to switch to the O’Wife fish, but it was too late. Not a big deal, but it would’ve been nice to know all the options ahead of time.

One thing I might have ordered? A 10-pound lobster. 🦞 At one point, the chef came out and showed it off—looked like a beast. The biggest lobster I’ve ever eaten solo was 7 pounds, so it would’ve been fun to break my personal record. Some people say the best lobsters are less than 2 pounds, but in my experience, that’s not true at all. I’ve had plenty of 3, 5, and 7-pound lobsters, and they’ve all been fantastic—I’d take them over a 1-2 pounder any day.

Another great evening in the BVI, great food, and always a fun adventure!
