A Quietly Rare 911: A 993 Targa, a New Chapter, and Christmas Cookies

There’s something quietly special about this 911. At first glance, it looks like a beautifully preserved silver Porsche from the 1990s. Look closer, and you realize it’s a 993-generation 911 Targa—the final evolution of the air-cooled era, and one of the most unconventional Targas Porsche ever built.

An immaculate 1998 Porsche 911 Targa, from the final year of air-cooled production—quietly rare, beautifully preserved, and now ready to be driven exactly as intended.

Instead of the traditional removable roof panel, the 993 Targa introduced a full glass roof that slides seamlessly beneath the rear window, filling the cabin with light while maintaining a coupe-like silhouette. It was a bold, technical solution that felt ahead of its time.

What makes this example even more special is its story—and its timing. This is a 1998 model, the final year of air-cooled 911 production, which places it at the very end of an iconic era. It’s owned by a lovely woman who is only the second owner, having purchased it from the original owner several years after its initial delivery. She’s hardly driven it over the years, and it shows—the car looks absolutely immaculate. Now that she’s retired, she plans to enjoy it the way it was always meant to be driven, with more miles, more memories, and plenty of time behind the wheel.

She dropped by PlaNoPoco this morning for her very first visit, arriving not only in this beautifully kept Targa but also carrying bags of homemade Christmas cookies for the group. It was one of those moments that perfectly captures what this community—and cars like this—are all about.

Some Porsches are rare because of production numbers. Others become special because of the people who care for them. This one happens to be both—and now, it’s entering the next chapter of its life exactly as intended.
