I recently attended a meetup hosted by PlaNoPoCo and Mavs & Mocha, a Mavericks Region Porsche Club of America group. Since it was my first time, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, so I did what any sensible introvert does—I parked my papaya-colored Porsche Macan S near the back of the pack and cautiously approached. You know, just in case there was some kind of initiation ritual involving revving contests or a pop quiz on air-cooled engines. 🔥
As I wandered through the sea of beautifully maintained Porsches, I took in the lineup: plenty of stunning 911s, some sharp-looking 718s, and of course, a solid showing of Macans and Cayennes. Everyone was incredibly friendly, eager to chat with newcomers, and more than happy to show off their prized rides. One generous soul even let me sit in his bright yellow Boxster so I could snap a selfie to send to my wife. 📸 She drives a yellow Fiat 500, so naturally, I suggested that we could be that adorable couple with matching cars. (She did not immediately respond with enthusiasm. 😆)
Truth be told, I’ve been eyeing a yellow 911 myself, but if I had my pick, I’d probably go for a 718 Cayman S in yellow, orange, or anything close to a Kelly green. Because if you’re going to drive a Porsche, why not make sure it can be spotted from space? 🚀
The group even had a birthday cake 🎂 for a couple of longtime members, which was a nice touch. Nothing says “welcome to the club” like cake and high-octane conversations.
I also got a fair number of compliments on the color of my Macan. Apparently, anything that isn’t black, gray, or white is considered bold in the Porsche world. But here’s the thing—every time I introduced myself, the conversation would inevitably go like this:
Them: “Which one’s yours?”
Me: Points to Macan S
Them: (If a guy) “Oh, that’s what my wife drives.”
Them: (If a woman) “Oh, that’s what I drive.”
Good thing I have thick skin! Who knew owning a Macan S meant I’d automatically be assigned “family hauler” status? 😂 Still, I had a great time, met some fantastic people, and will definitely be back—perhaps with an even more eye-catching Porsche next time. Maybe something in, say, highlighter yellow? 💛👀
